The Rail Fence Cipher is a simple cipher where successive characters of a message are written, one after another, on successive "rails" of a fence. Then the text is concatenated together to form the cipher text. If the last character of the plain text doesn't end on the last rail, a fill character, say "X" is used to denote this.

Using this analogy, a plain text of:

This is a test of the rail fence cipher

Becomes (using 3 rails):

Tss sot ifcch
h  ttfhrleeie
iiae  ea n pr

And concatenated:

Tss sot ifcchh  ttfhrleeieiiae  ea n pr

Below is a simple implementation of the rail fence cipher to further your knowledge.
